Charity Concert at Aberystwyth – 28th – 29th April 2012
Posted on May 15th, 2012
Swindon MVC’s relationship with Côr Meibion Aberystwyth goes back several years.
In 2006 Swindon MVC visited Aberystwyth for a concert in aid of The British Heart Foundation and in 2008 Côr Meibion Aberystwyth sang at Immanuel Church, Swindon.
A picture gallery of our visit…
Gordie Smith organises the troops before the concert and M.D. Max Brockman-Moore gives some last minute instructions.
But there’s always one joker! Len Curtis the most senior member of the choir (34 years – and still enjoying the banter).
The concert starts with SMVC and the Aberystwyth MVC joining forces to sing a rousing first item, ‘Gwahoddiad’ (in Welsh).
Aberystwyth MVC sing their hearts out in an excellent concert.
The audience is treated to a superb solo performance by young Welsh harpist, Nest Jenkins.
A fine female Welsh soloist, Sophie Rudge sings from the heart and impresses a packed hall with her performance.
M.D, Max Brockman-Moore introduces the SMVC choir.
Max presents Eric Ekins with SMVC cufflinks to celebrate his first concert and membership of the choir.
The choir relax with some ‘après concert’ refreshment at the hotel. Some say this is the best part!
Followed by some after concert singing, lead by an 83 year old – it was 11.45pm at this stage!
On the coach journey home the choir clear a tree from the road. Nothing stops the choir getting their Sunday lunch!
The choir enjoy Sunday lunch.
After lunch Terry Morris and the choir still have energy to serenade the caterers, with the song ‘I Can’t Help Falling in Love’ whilst Ken Garrett tucks into his second pudding.
In the words of the song, ‘Wuh-Duh-Yah do with a Drunken Sailor’ – ‘So now you know what they did on their trip to Aberystwyth’.
