The service comes to an end for another year.

A magnificent venue and the 200+ congregation made a fantastic sound which seemed to go far beyond the organisers expectations.

The SMVC choristers who took part in the event thoroughly enjoyed themselves as you can see.

Unfortunately not all the choir was available for this event as we were given fairly short notice but hopefully there were enough of us to make a difference.

The recorded hymns will start being shown early next year and would be also used in the future episodes of 'Songs of Praise'.

So look out for 'the men in the blue blazers' in future broadcasts of Songs of Praise!

This was our first concert since February 2020. The concert celebrated the lives of Choir Members, Friends and past members, lost during Covid lockdown, to whom we could not pay our respects. Money raised went to The British Heart Foundation and Parkinson's - Swindon District Branch.

You can't always tell how much our choir is enjoying singing by our faces but we were so glad to be back on stage, giving our all.

Our soloist Rowan Atkins, is a student of Wells Cathedral School, where she is developing her music and choral skills. Len Curtis, who was one of the choristers who passed away this year would have been proud of his granddaughter's excellent performance.

Rachel Smith, who was due to sing solo for us had to withdraw at short notice due to contact with someone who had Covid.

Not a concert goes by without Max bringing some humour to proceedings and this concert is no exception. 

The concert is brought to a close.

The concert finished with the singing of a Male Voice Choir favourite, ' Morte Christe'. Three ex. members of the choir and one of our new members joined us on stage. It was obvious how much the ex. members still loved singing and how much they missed being part of that 'wall of sound'.

Shirley Ludford, SMVC President, Swindon 105.5 community radio station manager  and the Deputy Lord Lieutenant for Wiltshire attended the concert. As always, her support of the choir is very much appreciated by SMVC.

This event was part of a series of concerts celebrating our centenary year and the proceeds raised funds for Prospect Cancer UK. We were delighted to have a top welsh choir, Cor Meibion De Cymru (The South Wales Male Voice Choir) and soprano soloist, Matilda Wale as guests.

In Welsh costume, the Ladies comittee of Cor Meibion De Cymru set the scene for this concert, which was just a couple of days before St. David's Day.

Our tradition is to treat our guests to a good buffet meal before the concert. Some of the choir had traveled on a coach for 4 hours, so the refreshments were well received.

The choirs had a rehearsal for the items they were going to sing together. The stage was just about big enough for the gathering of over 70 choristers.

A packed audience listen to the first joint item sung by the choirs in this lovely church in the centre of Swindon.

On the evening, as well as joint items, the individual choirs had their own chance to shine. And both choirs certainly did!

Soloist, Matilda Wale, accompanied by Harvey Stansfield added some extra sparkle to the evening's entertainment.

Another excellent concert and all the performers gather to take the applause from an appreciative audience. It's always good to know all those hours of practice have been worthwhile!

Deputy Director of Music, Kate Lock, who was SMVC's accompanist on the evening and Sian Gwawr Davies who accompanied Cor Meibion De Cymru also make their appearance on stage. 

And finally, in the function room, after the concert a presentation is made to Cor Meibion De Cymru to mark their visit to us. Following the success of this concert, we hope it will be the first of many!

Our friends Wroughton Silver Band, JTPTrust Concert Choir and Marlborough Youth Choir joined us on stage to entertain in this ever popular concert at Christchurch, Swindon. The concert raised funds for Julia's House, a charity which provides practical and emotional support for families caring for a child with a life-limiting condition.

This fund raising concert, for Swindon Hydrotherapy Pool, was held at St John’s Church. Our Monday rehearsals take place in the hall adjoining the church - so it was definitely a home game! Unfortunately, this was a much reduced SMVC choir due to a sickness bug in the camp.

SMVC sang a variety of songs, ending the concert with some Christmas carols. Other vocal pieces were provided by soloist, Rachel Smith and the comical partnership of John Griggs and Paul Franklin. Paul had a solo spot too.
